WakaCARE PROGRAMME

Parent Information

The Wakaaranga School WakaCARE Programme is managed by the Board of Trustees. The Supervisor and staff are employed by the Board to provide a safe, stimulating, caring and comfortable environment for the children, taking into account children’s individual needs. WakaCARE is not highly structured but offers children a wide range of leisure time activities to choose from. Children will also have the opportunity to complete homework during the Programme. The children in WakaCARE will also have the use of several outdoor areas as specifically designated. All activities, both inside and out, will be supervised.

MISSION STATEMENT
Meeting the needs of the Wakaaranga School and community families by providing a secure, stimulating, consistent and caring environment for their school children.

ATTENDANCE
Children may attend the WakaCARE on a full time, part time or casual basis. WakaCARE provides a safe and affordable service for parents and children. A staff member (usually the Supervisor) is allocated the task of checking that all those children whose attendance has been advised to WakaCARE are present. In the event that any of those children do not arrive at WakaCARE as expected, the staff member will follow up with parents/guardian to ascertain the child’s whereabouts. Notification of non-attendance must be made before midday on the day concerned by phoning the school office on (09) 576 8205 (Fax (09) 576 9123). Parents should note that WakaCARE cannot take any responsibility for their child/ren’s arrival at the Programme if their attendance has not been previously notified to staff.

Full-time: Full-time attendees are those children attending both morning and afternoon sessions of WakaCARE. Their attendance will be expected at those sessions unless advanced notification has been made by a parent/guardian.

Part-time: Part-time attendees are those children attending sessions on the same day each week as nominated on enrolment forms e.g. Tuesdays and Thursday afternoons. Their attendance will be expected on those days unless advanced notification has been made by a parent/guardian.

Casual: Casual attendees are children who attend only occasionally. If possible attendance of casuals should be notified a day in advance and payment must be made on the day of attendance. Casual attendees can only be accepted if there are spaces available in the Programme and will be allotted on a first-in basis.

ENROLMENT
Initial contact to join WakaCARE should be made through the Wakaaranga School Office or from Robyn Shelwell at WakaCare. You are welcome to visit the Programme at any time. An enrolment form must be completed for each child, including casuals, and a Terms and Conditions Agreement signed.
